Designed as a joint project by the UNESCO Institute for Statistics and the UNESCO Cultural Sector, ‘The 2009 UNESCO Framework for Cultural Statistics’ is a study showing the need to supplement and amend a similar document, published far back in 1986. This new paper addresses some of the new cultural phenomena that have emerged since 1986, including the impact of new technologies that have changed culture drastically, its accessibility, the way we perceive it and its impact on the economic and sociological aspect. Through this collaboration, UNESCO hopes to encourage investment in cultural statistics.
