The cultural and creative industries are one of the fastest growing sectors and are major drivers of developing economies in developed countries, representing a significant source of income and employment. In addition to the economic benefits of the cultural and creative industries, they contribute to human, inclusive and sustainable development.

The Montenegrin Cultural Development Program defines the creative industries as ‘cultural activities aimed at generating income or profits, engaging in the business sector, i.e economies contributing to sustainable development at local and national level’.

Starting with the Cultural Development Program 2016-2020, as an official document of the Ministry of Culture of Montenegro by which the fields of creative industry are recognized and based on the analysis of international experience in CCI mapping and consultation, 11 sectors were defined with 40 activities belonging to the cultural and creative industries, namely:

  • Museums, libraries and heritage
  • Music, visual and performing arts
  • Design
  • Movie
  • Photography
  • Architecture
  • Computer programs and games
